I need a trail cam under 150 dollars that would be descent enough to actually be worth buying. Most cams i've seen only have a flash and NO infrared. Now, I'd like to get some opinions here..would the flash on the camera spook deer enough to not take the route they usually take every morning?
thanks for the help

My Cuddeback has an IR flash for night shots. Since I've had several shots taken over a period of a few minutes I'd have to say that the IR doesn't bother the deer. Sorry but I couldn't say how deer might react to a visible light flash.

Deer either will or wont be spooked, no way to know until you get some picts. Some deer dont care about the flash... some do. Some deer see the IR, most dont /shrug

IMO, Stealthcam I450 w/ external battery is the way to go for that price range. If you are going to spend more then a Moultrie I40 or I60.

No offense to the cuddeback owners, their cams used to be terrific but recient versions all seem to have major problems.

You could try another solution, try to use an Infrared filter in front of your flash. Look for 780nm to 870nm filter and use a large CCD camera (older or more than 4 years old cameras usually would do it great).

You could usually get the filter from a camera shop

Have you looked at Moultrie cameras? I have the D-40 ..$79.00, and the better one is the I-40 or the I-60.. Mine takes good pics. night and day. If it gets stolen I'm only out $79. rather than $400.

does it come with whatever it is that you will need to mount it with a tree? And is there anyway of "camoflauging" the unit to eliminate the possibility of someone stealing it or kids breaking it?

The Moultrie D40 I have is all black and is held on the tree by two bungee cords, and as far as someone stealing them, it happens..Some cameras have a place for a cable and lock, but If some jerk can't steal it , He'll destroy it. The chance you take if you want to use one.

There is a "Bear Safe" steel box that fits the Cuddebacks but I'm not sure about any others. It is two piece, fastens to the tree with lag bolts and locks together. It is sort of OD but could obviously be painted camo if you like. I think mine was about $40 from Cabelas.
