My preference is for Winchester or CCI small rifle primers. All the best...

I use Federal primers on my pistol loads (38's and 357's) because they have softer cups and more likely to ignite on my tuned target pistols.

I use CCI 450 on my Whisper loads
and I use winchester standard for everything else..

So there..

Gidday jeclif. I'm using Remington Large Rifle primers for my 30.30 and .243 and Federal Small Rifle when I load for my mates .223 Howa.

Why Remington...cause I got 5000 given to me and I haven't had anything approaching a problem with them. Prior to that I used Federal exclusively.

Cheers, Vince

Howdy, Like Vince, I use RP's exclusively in all my loads for my rifles. The loads for my girls are winchester only. I have had no problems with either brand...Dave

Use what the Reloading Manuals specify mate. I would be very surprised if this is anything other than Small Rifle primers. Brand is irrelevant, they are all pretty good.

jeclif,
Before you reload for the M-1 check the bullets. At one time the only carbine bullet that was .308 were those made by Sierra. The other mfg bullets were .307 or .306 On primers I use a SR primer in what I pick up from the cabinet, you are not shooting bench rest with the little gun, so do not worry to much with the primer, but do watch the bullets. A 307 in a 308 barrel ain't good.
Best,
Ed

jclif being that your reloading for the M1 carbine and it has a free floating firing pin you might consider using the CCI #41 mil spec primer which would help eliminate the possibility of a slam fire it's also rated as a MAGNUM primer by CCI so work you load up slowly. I had a M1 about 20 years ago, before they had these type of primers available to the public I reloaded for mine with standard primers and never knew the difference but it's just and option I wanted to mention. Hornady makes a nice little 110 Gr. RNSP or FMJ for the carbine. The RNSP doesn't have allot of exposed lead to cause jamming problems. www.grafs.com/product/188830

This may also be an option if you just wanting to build a plinking load but keep your MV down to 1600 fps. www.grafs.com/product/184684
