For, and aside of "firearm testing", why companies use them "i think" is to inflate their posted accuracy numbers with numbers which are far from ascertainable to the average guy.
Sure that gives a "somewhat" of a base accuracy that "may" be obtainable from the seasoned shooter, but i still think they blow things out of proportion with "machine accuracy" and "actual accuracy" which then "human" numbers should be posted along with ransom numbers to show vulnerabilities.

I post this because a friend of mine practically drives himself nuts if he can't shoot posted numbers and doesn't understand why. To his defense he is a great shot, but has lost a lot of money buying and selling guns for the "posted" accuracy.

L O L It's an obsesion and we all have it in some degree or another. I asked RCBS, a while back, if they could make an electronic scale read a little more accurately then +/- one tenth of a grain. I think that was laughter I heard in the background as the guy on the phone was trying to explain (between giggles) that I couldn't afford it if they did...Well what the he** did I know??? Electronics is electronics. I mean. What do ya want here...

Sure is a good thing that it's 5:00 somewhere...I've been known to have whiskey in my morning coffee when I plan to stay in camp and not hunt or I just have horses to tend to....Warms the cockles of your heart...along with the bacon & eggs...

I used a scale once so sensitive it could measure the weight of a finger print! Good ole college Chemistry class... man I hated that class.
