I'd have to say that's true based on some of the pipers I've heard.

Mike,

Never know she can be making alot more money as compared to what you think a doctor is making after the huge mal-practice insurance and the like they pay which she doesn't have to Wink

D, I can guarantee you that she’s not making ANYTHING near what a doctor makes!! I think the doctors at her place got yearly bonuses that were a lot more than her yearly salary.

D, it's a private practice. I gather they don't do that in Canada?

In most of Canada is mainly public goverment paid practices. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. But thats one reason many Canadian doctors go to the US for more money. But some doctors I've talked to here said it wasn't worth it cause of the mal-practice insurance etc down there to go hence why I mentioned it.

Last time I went to the doctors there was a sheet on the wall for OHIP money and non-resident costs. It was something like 40$ that OHIP gave for each medical visit when your sick etc (nothing too major) for people who are residents of the province. Mind you that has to cover the costs of the clinic for the doctor who did the check up, the staff, the building etc.

D, actually you are being taxed for all those expenses up front. A tech from Germany was visiting us and someone asked him if he got free medical care. He said yes. So I asked him how much income tax he paid. It was over 50%. It sure ain't free, you just pay for it ahead of time. Honestly though I'm not sure which is worse, getting ripped off by the govt.or getting ripped off by insurance companies. As for malpractice costs, I blame that on the insurance companies and lawyers. Sure there are time when it is malpractice but I know that many times its not, just someone being greedy.

Mike,

Your right about the malpractice and the paying for it now, or paying for it later through a insurance company.

Still my goverment required deductions are only 20%, thats including all my taxes, unemployment insurance and the like. I much rather prefer this system.

When I was living up north, the only doctors we could get to work there were being imported from South Africa. They got some kind of deal where if they worked where they were sent for two years they got slipped into the country quicker. In those days white folks were in a pretty big hurry to get out of South Africa. This doctor told me as soon as his two years was up he was heading for the States, he already had a residency planned in North Dakota. I asked him if the money was really that much better and he said as soon as you step across the 49th parallel, the money increases 10 times over and continues to go up as you head south. Can't say that I blame him when it's that kind of difference, the reason he was in Canada in the first place is because Canadian doctors are doing the same thing as soon as they graduate.
