|
I did a little project today with help from one of our Tool Makers at work, anyways, I had bought a pair of old Parker Hale scope bases for the Lee-Enfield, but they use a single dovetail that is not standard to any but their own.
I couldn't find rings, so I made a matched set:
Is that since we all know how annoying it is to have a scope ring get lose from the mount I machined a counter bore on the clamping side to accept a #8 lock washer about .005" shallow giving the lock washer the final clamp down so it doesn't vibrate lose. But completely hiding it from a check of the scope rings themselves as the lock washer is between the rings and the clamp block hidden away in the counter bore.
I think I'll send them out for Hard Type III Anodizing however. They look a little plain as they are right now.
What you think?

Great job Mr. D.
You can anodize at home by using car battery charger and a bucket of battery acid.
Maybe you want to sand blast them to the same texture as your scope.
They are then less likely to reflect light in brighter days.

Yes there are methods to do it at home, however I emailed a couple of companies that we deal with at work, so I figured I'll wait for their price quotes before I jump the gun and do a bad anodizing job.

Very nice D !!! Good job, I’m a little jealous that you have someone that can help with this sort of thing.
Before you get them finished I’d mock everything up and lap the rings.
Nothing against your work mind you. It’s about the holes in the receiver and bases being in the right place.

I did alot of the work, as well as I made up the design for these rings (and modified the design as I went slightly), but he was a great help in getting the project done faster then I could have done it.
I still have not had the mounts mounted to the receiver. Will be paying a gunsmith to do that.

This will be going on my Lee-Enfield Envoy rifle, it is just a little too expensive/valuable to be my first time drilling and tapping a rifles receiver.

Yah, I understand, as most guns come predrilled nowadays.

Looks purty darn good D! I'll expect another pic when you get them mounted on the rifle.

You will get it, 2-3 weeks for the gunsmith to install the mounts first.

Vince,
Perhaps have a gunsmith install a drill and tap mount?
By the way I only made the rings, the mounts are very old however. I thought they'd be harder to find but I found them quite easily for about 115$ including taxes and shipping.
