I have a Rem 700 in 270 Win. that I plan to reload for using 130 gr. Rem cor-lok (sp?), Win. brass & CCI or Win. primers.

I have 4 of the powders Hodgdon recommends for the Hornady 130 gr listed in their manual (H1000, H4831, Varget, H4895) plus Reloarder 22 but think I'll start with H4831. On our database a few folks reported good results using a max load of 60 gr up to 61 gr., and 1-2 using around 58 gr. with various 130 grain bullets.

QUESTION: Since these loads are using bullets other than the Rem. cor-loks, how much difference will it make?

Any other suggestions are welcome.

Just follow the recommendations of a current reloading manual and you should be just fine. My rifles have a preference for 130 grain bullets and IMR4350 powder. All the best...

Thanks guys. I appreciate the tips. There doesn't seem to be any data in any of my books on the Rem. 130 cor-lokts. Most of the little bit of reloading I've done has been for my Marlin .45-70 and there is no shortage of data covering every bullet and powder combination for it. With the .270 the recommended C.O.L. varies about 0.1 depending on the bullet and which powder you're using. I know to start low and work up but have read not to use load data from another bullet of the same weight due to differences in design giving you different seating depths and C.O.L.s.

I'd would feel better if I could have found specific info on the bullet.

The fun part of reloading is that YRMV. Each bullet from different manufacturers have slightly different characteristics in terms of the hardness of the jacket, bearing surface, etc. Each test barrel used will have its own variations as well. The barrel of the rifle being reloaded for and the tightness of the chamber will vary as well. Influences of temperature, humidity and elevation also vary. It is judicious to begin the loading process below the standard recommended loads. It is better to use chronograph data to determine the velocity in the rifle being used as well as the pressures.

Mainly, a good loading proceedure will eliminate the guessing part and give statistical data that can be compared. A good quality rifle will tend to offer acceptable results with a variety of powders and primers. If a rifle is finicky about its load, it suggests a problem with the rifle. Fine tuning a rifle for optimum accuracy may involve seating depth, slight load variations, etc., which is a good reason to establish the velocity and accuracy that is acceptable before loading the first round.

If you'll notice alot of the old powder company reloading manuals don't list a particular bullet manufaturer, Don't let that keep you from shooting, We used to do it that way all the time. Just start low and work up. The worst that could happen is you end up shooting more. which is definetly going to make you a better shot and thus make your loads better.

Thanks D!

Personally I feel pretty comfortable switching from one "cup and core" type bullet to another of the same weight, assuming you follow normal safe practices. The only time I'd be real concerned with finding the "correct" load would be if I was switching from a "cup and core" type bullet to a monolithic type. And usually those manufacturers have their loads posted online or in their own manual.

I do use a Chrony when trying new loads. I'm not worried about "unintended results" was just wondering if I should take the data from any jacketed 130 gr bullet or if the cor-lokt will shoot more like one bullet than another.

Thanks for the feedback.

Reloder 22 is my powder of choice in the .270. I was using IMR 4831 and upon switching to RL22 my velocity increased by nearly 200 FPS. I am pushing the 130 gr SST at 3190 FPS out of a 22" barrel.

I'll probably start by loading a set with H4831 and one of Re22.

Do any of you guys that use Re22 use mag. primers? I only saw one manufacturer, Speer?, call for them. Have you tried them?

Have to finish redoing the kitchen then get the reloading bench back in shape before I get started on this.

Thanks again guys. I appreciate the help.

I use fed 210 L.R. match on all my standard cases and have never required anything else. I bought several thousand for a .308 match rifle once so all my recipes use these. Also accuracy has always been as much as I could expect out of any rifle I've shot these in. My .270 's shoot .5" with these off a bench at 100 yards. Sooo for hunting they are more than adequate.
