I have not found a cheap and easy way to post any pdf's to be downloaded, so I created a quick blog and posted some interesting articles there. One is from a 1966 Guns and Ammo on just what is a Yard, when it comes to guns.

d-happenstance.blogspo...-post.html

The other is a great 1970 American Rifleman story on how the Russians teach sharp shooters. And we are talking iron sights here huge distances.

d-happenstance.blogspo...-1970.html

I inherited a plethora of old gun magazines from my dad. Most are still in the original brown shipping sleeves, and they date back to the 1940's. At least the ones Ive gone through so far. Mostly American Rifleman and Guns and Ammo, but many more to, and most are like new. So I figured as I found things, I would try to share.

If you like this, let me know and I will post more as I get to them and let you know. I'm not scanning and posting the whole magazine, but I will try to find interesting things. Any ideas of what to look for would be welcomed too.

Dan

While I think it a great idea to share info around the world, you should also be aware of copyright laws. You can't be to careful these days without lawyers trolling the web looking for copyright violations on websites as this one and blog sites. Just a heads up, I would take them down from your blog post, contact the editors and find out if its ok to put up an article or 2.

Doesn't copyright stop after 10 years or so?
Or are we still paying the Jews for every bible we print?

I went to the U.S. Copyright web site before I posted the above comment, I should have posted a link to the site. But in general:

Quote:

"How Long Does Copyright Protection Last?

How long does a copyright last?
The term of copyright for a particular work depends on several factors, including whether it has been published, and, if so, the date of first publication. As a general rule, for works created after January 1, 1978, copyright protection lasts for the life of the author plus an additional 70 years. For an anonymous work, a pseudonymous work, or a work made for hire, the copyright endures for a term of 95 years from the year of its first publication or a term of 120 years from the year of its creation, whichever expires first. For works first published prior to 1978, the term will vary depending on several factors. To determine the length of copyright protection for a particular work, consult chapter 3 of the Copyright Act (title 17 of the United States Code). More information on the term of copyright can be found in Circular 15a, Duration of Copyright, and Circular 1, Copyright Basics.

Do I have to renew my copyright?
No. Works created on or after January 1, 1978, are not subject to renewal registration. As to works published or registered prior to January 1, 1978, renewal registration is optional after 28 years but does provide certain legal advantages. For information on how to file a renewal application as well as the legal benefit for doing so, see Circular 15, Renewal of Copyright, and Circular 15a, Duration of Copyright.

But people copyright infringe on a daily basis. They cut and paste, or type verbatim words from books, catalogs, news articles, research, manufacture documents, gun schematics, pictures, drawings, art, Avatar icon pictures in forums [ especially those from movie are often seen] ,, etc… in post all over the internet. Even here some have C&P or re-wrote from copyrighted work.
Its not being done for profit, nor is it being done to damage anyone’s image, and by giving full credit and citation of work and author, I don’t know if it would work under copyright. I can always call my sight a news blog I guess. I’m just passing on information that was previously known.

But, even though this is my point of view, doesn’t mean they cant sue me I guess. But I think the first line is a cease and desist letter, so I can remove it all then I guess. I’m not an attorney though , so I don’t know the intricacies of copyright law.

However, I will be looking into it more since you all have brought up very good points. But I don’t think I would be sued, just told to stop before I am.

OK, I think I shall remove the blog post now. Just to CMA. But if this is copyright infringement, there are hundreds just on this forum alone. Why is one, accepted, and another not? I dont know, but I dont want to be the one to find out the expensive way.

As i am aware the way around this is to COMPLETELY CREDIT THE ARTICLE! AS IN PUBLICATION VOL UME NUMBER ISSUE AUTHOR(sp?) PAGE And DATE OF PUBLICATION. Basically you are giving credit where credit is due again as I recall!

Love old school stuff....makes ya wonder how some of these new schoolers would make it back then. Gramp's did it old school with wood and blued steel and no muzzle break!

Got stacks of old AR mags and such from early 80's on up...love it.

while looking for info about snake charmer 410 the other day, I ran across an article on Amazon from an older Gun mag. Even though the story was old, they were still charging $9.95 for the electronic download.
I think maybe putting things online like I did would be a mistake since they are charging premium for the older articles.

My dad has about a dozen of those old Herters catalogs still. They are cool. I'll see if I can have them and maybe send you one so you can sniff it LOL
Heck , I have the orignal issue of the Sharpe reloading book and the Modern Gunsmithing books from back in the early 1900s. A lot of things still apply, though equipment and consumables have changed a lot. They are in really good shape and I love reading them, and of course, the smell of them.

My one press is one of the old boat anchor herters too. Cut down a Lee Ram to work in the Herters set up. Then use the Lee shell holders, and it will load anything you can shove in the throat of it. I also have a ton of old herters reloading bits and pieces, but they started to get rust and such on them. Many are still like new though.
