Go get some mate. Moose meat is supposed to be really nice.

It is really nice Vince. I shot maybe a half dozen or so over the years and they are the best! If I could I would take a moose every year and leave the rest.

And congratulations to Dallan - good looking moose there!

Thank you.

We got him up Willow Canyon across from Solitude ski resort on the public land there. There is a hiking trail up to a small pond.

I've put in a crazy amount of time this hunt. Burning over $100 a week in gas, we really stepped up the game starting Saturday entering the final week. We've hit nearly every good moose spot from Tabby Mt back to the Wasatch Front, and all down through Strawberry and the "Waters area". Only saw a couple of cows in those areas.

I was shocked when we went in for this bull, to find 3 mature bulls bedded there. The other I passed on was fractionally wider, double brow tines and more paddle mass... but it wasn't a particularly attractive bull. I loved the gnarly aggressive look of this guys rack, big deep points etc.

Taxidermist I took it to said it was the biggest bull by far he's taken in this year... which means to me, it was a really rough year for hunters in general. I'm super happy with how it turned out.

Another picture that got sent to me this morning after he got posed. This shows the incredible size of that body:

LOL... we came out with probably 500lbs. Its all at the butcher. Using a new company, my old go-to sold out and the new owners wont do wild game.

We'll see how much yield we get back... but we did buy another 22 ft^3 freezer over the summer expecting to fill it up. Should be alot of meat for sure.

yes DO make sure to weigh what you get back...better still do it with set of bathroom scales when you collect meat from butchers...and let them see you do it.....keeps them honest and prevents rampant "taxing" of your hard earned tucker.

Maaate, you have achieved…that is one damn fine looking critter. No shortage of meat there, and your mate needs lots of thanks, and a beer or two, for pointing your towards this big fella.

I agree with Elvis, not to say your butcher will “rubber dick” you, but let him know you care. Maybe offer him a couple of steaks for him and his missus…get him on side.

That guys kid had the cow tag... I pointed them to a spot I've been seeing cows. They went in yesterday morning and ran right into one, 1/4 mile from where I told them to stop and glass. Cool stuff, the kid made a great shot and dumped it.

So Karma wins the day Smile Good for him, good for me ... lol

PS: Here's the other two that were with mine. The one on the right was slightly bigger palmed, but tiny nubs. His right side wasnt as filled in as the left. Looking head on, he was nice, but I liked the bull I shot better.

5.5 weeks of looking for a mature moose, not finding anything... then 3 in one spot a couple days before season ends. Better to be lucky than good apparently.

That picture is from my cell phone... not a zoom camera. Those silly things let me get that close, LOL!

Got him back yesterday. I had to do a pedestal mount as there's just no wall space left in our small house. Its actually very over whelming being in the room with it. Maybe I should have done a euro or something, LOL!

The pedestal ended up being interesting, our old family farm where I grew up is being developed into a subdivision for multi-million dollar homes. The old barn my dad built 60'ish years ago, was to be torn down. One side of it somehow aged into the most beautiful golden honey and black wood. I got permission from the new owner to retrieve enough wood to build the base.

So kindof a nostalgic feel looking at that barn wood paneling. Really beautiful I think.
