I have a good amount of what I am guessing is mil serp 30-06 brass but unfortunatly I am not familiar with the head stamps for 30-06 mil serp ammo. I was hoping that someone could shed some light on the situation so that I may understand better. My own curiousity is mainly why I would like to know.
First I have some that are stamped S T W, I am not aware if they made brass or not but I am leaning towards the idea that this stands for Shooting Times Western.
Second I have some stamped DEN 43 and I have no guess as to what this may be. Would this be Denver Ordnance plant?
Third and last I have WCC 52 which I believe is winchester mil serp brass. My father in law has some WCC .223 mil serp brass which he refers to as Winchester so I assume this is true. I am thinking now that this is Western Cartridge Co. which is a devision of Winchester right? or olin rather.

I am not sure what STW means. The DEN 43 is Denver brass made in WWII. The WCC brass is Winchester. from the Korean War. How do you plan to remove the primer crimp? I have used a Lyman hand tool, but switched to an RCBS primer pocket swage die. All the best...

Removing the crimp in mil-Surp brass can vary by the head stamp too. i have a bunch of Greek 30-06 (HXP-68) that is lighly staked at three spots tha can be cut back with the cone end of the chamfer de-burr tool you use on the case mouth. Most of the Lake City (missouri) LC stamped brass I have you need to use a tool like the RCBS swage or the best tool for the job( with the price tag to prove it) is the dillon super swage tool. I have an RCBS case prep station and it has cutters for removing crimp.

Try the de-burr tool first as it is the cheapest and easiest. Just do not cut into the wall of the primer pocket and bevel it back too far.

It is a pain in the ..hand operation but thank god you only have to do it once.

Ditto on RCBS tool. I added a jam nut to mine so it stays adjusted. I use a Lee Breech Lock Challenger press and added a copper nipple over the ram to raise the collar of the swager so it works properly. The nipple needed some minor expanding on a press to fit loosely. I then used crocus cloth and wet/dry sandpaper to reduce the outside circumference so the swager collar would ride up and down without taking the nipple wit it.

I am planning on purchasing the RCBS tool however for now I am going to have my father in law take care of what i have right now with his Dillon tool. Thanks for the info, I did take a look at that web site last night when I was trying to find out the info before asking, it is quite helpful.
