I picked up a Marlin 39A in 22LR for a good price and had to pick a bunch of crap out of the action to get it to extract the shells. Now it won't fire, the firing pin doesn't hit hard enough. Anybody else had this problem? Am I in need of a super duper cleaning? Also which weight oil should be used on the firing pin?

Thanks

Joe,

Perhaps someone will tell me I'm wrong on this but I dont put oil on springs. That is a job for grease Smile

Also if your gun wont hit off the rim of the 22 perhaps there is another problem like a misalinged firing pin or a broken firing pin ?? Confused

Dimitri

Take it to a gunsmith to check for a broken firing pin if you dont feel comfortable doing it.
Did it fire before you cleaned it?
when it fired did it have light strikes?
Take your time if you do it yourself, these rifles are so easy to fix, its not going to give you much trouble.

I own one of these 22 marlin lever aciton rifles. very good gun.

there was a site to download gun manuals, but at the time I know there was conflicts and disputes on it being leagal. the site is not working now , so it might of been shut down.
www.stevespages.com/page7b.htm

but it was nice to have to get a manual quick if you needed one.

call marlin fire arms , I am sure you could get a break down manual from them.

there is not too much to this gun. its pretty simple to figure out.

I had a few problems with it ejecting some ammo, but if I buy the more expensive amo it seems to have no problems.
remmington bulk 22 ammo seems to work ok most of the time. but it still jams a little.
I called marlin fire arms, and told them that I needed a new ejector and the other little part that grabs the shell to pull it back . they sent me all the parts free of charge. but this gun is still under warrenty.

get the manual and check it out. the break down of the gun should be very simple. just follow the instuctions. look at the fireing pin. if it looks defective. call marlin fire arms. I am sure it is not too expensive. and it will be worth it to get it fixed.

I love my marlin lever action 22. its easy to disasemble to clean and fix.
